The Turtle Who Hurdled
The Turtle Who Hurdled is my senior thesis, a children's picture book aimed at children aged 3-7 about a turtle who peruses her dream of hurdling.
When surrounded by others with shiny trophies, Clover the turtle is determined to earn her own. But, she's a turtle, and they aren't known for their speed or high jumps. This is the story of her journey of learning to hurdle and discovering the joy in doing something for its own sake, not to perform for a prize.

This story was inspired by the story of my boyfriend's childhood pet turtle, Clover, who escaped her tank and ran away. While very sad, it is pretty funny for a turtle to run away. So, I wrote a story about why a turtle would do something like that, and gave Clover aspirations of hurdling. ​
